Forbearance

Ugh!  Don’t run away from this word!  It may sound dry and uninteresting, but stick with me.  I did a google search for the definition:  Forbearance:  {can also be known as Patience- seriously?}  here goes…..when we are weary, our persistence and patience with a situation is not to be done in vain.  At the proper time, we will see the harvest of our work, despite the stresses that are obstacles.  Another word that likes to saddle up with forbearance is Longsuffering!  Again, another google search for the definition:  having or showing patience in spite of troubles, especially those caused by other people.  Biblically speaking?  It means:  “patiently enduring lasting offense or hardship.”

So, what led me to spend time chewing and studying on these two words?  Any of you find yourself going through a WAIT SEASON?  If yes, well friend, I am right there with ya!  Have you been finding yourself praying, pleading, laying prostrate and holding your breath waiting for something you believe in to come to pass?   You have done all you can do to help move the dream along, accomplish the goal set before you, pray for salvation of a wayward son or daughter, healing of cancer or even a personal goal of losing 50 pounds by eating rabbit food!

Some of you already know my story,  Maui, here we come, or NOT!  Four, count them, four LONG years ago, April 2017 my husband and I bought property on Maui with a set goal of moving there, building a house and settling down.  Sounds simple right?  Uh? Not so much .  I find myself relating to those poor poor people who wandered in the Wilderness for 40 years!  The journey my husband and I have been on over the past four years is a story that will have to wait.  LoL, yep, gonna make you wait.

Fast forward to April 24, 2021 we are on the precipice or cliff if you will, waiting for word of a date and time for closing on our mortgage loan to build our house!  Seriously, for the past three weeks, which might, I say feels like three months as time seems to be standing still, we have been told “It’s gonna be soon!”  Maybe those people should google the definition of SOON.  Because in my mind, soon is like “Five minutes.”

At the risk of either myself or my husband going into cardiac arrest, gaining 50 pounds by eating bags of potatoe chips ,which by the way my husband likes, I much prefer ho-ho’s, I suggested we Think on something other than the timing of our loan closing date. Thus, that is what led me to study the word Forbearance.   To recap, Forbearance means: when we are weary, our persistence and patience with a situation is not to be done in vain.  At the proper time, we will see the harvest of our work, despite the stresses that are obstacles.  Despite the delays on signing on the loan, seeing the salvation of a wayward son or daughter or even losing that 50 pounds, we can be assured at the proper time we will see the harvest of our work.

As I spend time re-focusing my thoughts towards things that bring life, encouragement and positivity, the fear, doubt and anxiety begin to fade.  I encourage you, dear friend, to do the same.  Whatever trial, struggle or hardship you may be facing today, may you rest in the promise that at the proper time, we will see the harvest of our work.  Do not grow weary in doing what is right and good.  We can make a choice to think on good thoughts or on thoughts that bring us just a little further down to the slimy pit of despair.  Truth be told, I find that the battle between positive and negative “what if “ thoughts has an occurrence of about every five minutes !  However, by the grace of God, I am progressing towards resting and relaxing in His care and in His timing.

I leave you with this scripture verse found in Romans 8:6:

“For to set the mind on flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”

Think on this friends ~
